Timeout

In many other sports, teams have to opportunity to take a short time out for tactical reasons.

I think it would be nice, if this was also possible in unicycle hockey.
I think allowing one time out per game would be too much and I think a good rule would be to allow a time out for each game in the knockout phase of a tournament.
As in floorball and ice hockey, I suggest a length of 30s of the time out.

I am not keen on time outs. From the google searches I have done, they are rarely called by coaches in ice hockey despite having the option. I am trying to confirm if the national ice hockey league in Australia even has time outs as I haven't seen one called since 2018.

I associate time outs with basketball not ice hockey, and if hockey became closer to basketball that would be a negative in my opinion.

Maybe I don't see the desire for it because we don't have enough effective strategy to make use of it though.

I don't think this will be a positive change. For starters it'll eat into effective play time and make it harder to schedule a tournament if there are teams that don't use their timeouts. We also set the game duration based on tournament scheduling so this will disproportionally impact tournaments where the games are somewhat shorter.

And then I think I'll also echo Steven and say there might just not be so much strategy to discuss during the timeout. We generally expect teams to have prepared from home and it seems unlikely there's a lot that can be discussed during a timeout that couldn't otherwise be discussed during halftime or at the stands between games. If teams bring a coach and have a few extra players they can even discuss things on the bench and then switch players.

We do not need timeouts. Games are rather short in unicycle hockey. Half time breaks offer possibilities for both teams to discuss tactics.

I only made very little notes about this discussion and try to make a summary from memory.

Aspects we agreed on:
* for the spectators, adding the possibility for taking a timeout slows the flow of the game down and thus isn‘t very attractive.
* for teams, a timeout is an interesting tactical possibility
* for organizers a timeout needs time and thus additional time has to be planned and would reduce effective play time.

We agreed if we will add this, we only will add it for games with at least a specific playing time (at least 30 min in total) and not for games of the knockout phase (as this is not defined in the rules).

If I remember correctly, some of you wanted to ask some other players and think about this more.
