Variety scores

First of all, this is NOT my point of view; but 3 riders talked to me about this idea after the Street Prelims at U20, and since they unfortunately have not signed up for the Rulebook Committee, I thought I would bring this idea up for discussion.

They suggested that Variety should be considered to value the overall variety of the riders, so even comparing timed runs to each other (and within timed runs too). What they said was based on the practice that riders may attempt the "same run" during their timed runs and they suggested that it should be valued by higher variety scores if someone is doing completely different runs.

So in Prelims the riders do only Timed Runs, 2 or 3 depending on the Director. In the Finals, riders do 3 Timed Runs, and only the best one counts.

Since it is only the best one counting, I do not think it makes sense to value the variety in-between the 3 timed runs, as technically that would mean that we actually value all 3 timed runs... that would encourage riders to perform as many different tricks during their 3 Timed Runs as they can, while the current rules encourage to make a single Timed Run as good as possible - and I think rules are better as they are now.

That would require a full change of the current rules since scoring variety for a run that isn't scored should now be scored...

I also dislike this idea. It would be a lot harder to judge, would be weird to explain to the audience and would probably lead to a lower riding level overall, because riders would not focus on trying to nail one hard run but go for more diverse 3 run total.
