Resolution of Jump results (Closed for comments)

In the World Record committee, we have decided that we want to record and quote results from all the four Jump disciplines to one centimeter. In case a distance or height would have been set at a fractional value (e.g. the platform to jump on is stated to be at 120.5 cm), the recorded value would be rounded down to a whole number of centimeters, in the example case it would be 120 cm. That would imply that it is only useful to make whole centimeter increments in the distance or height set in any of the Jumps disciplines.

I would like to phrase a corresponding rule in the IUF rulebook, so that we avoid the situation that a value of 120,5 cm (to stay with the example) is published in the event results, but the corresponing world record is slightly different at 120 cm.

The background of this whole-centimeter-rule is that it is near impossible to measure a height or distance of jumping objects (bars or pallets) reliably at fractions of a centimeter. The ground for highjumps is never mathematically flat, the bar is round, pallets have irregularities that are easily in the order of 0.5 to 1 cm, et cetera.

Oops, I overlooked 13B.7. The rule that I wanted to impose is already in place. I'm not sure if it is always adhered to, but it looks like we don't need an additional rule after all. Sorry about the confusion.

Sorry for the late response on this discussion. Yes, I just went through the relevant part of the Rulebook and also saw this part, so that's great :) But I totally agree with you that there is work to do in the other discussion about defining the guidelines for these measurements.

I think I can close this discussion - if I had seen 13B.7 in time, I would not have started it anyway.
